Can Wine Cause Heart Papitations

Balance 2010

Another year, and it is a particularly bipolar.
In a series of sad personal situations contrasts the most fruitful year may have had in relation to literature. Let us review the latter.

Back in November of 2009 surprised friends and family talking about my plans to create an online literary magazine. The people who usually do not know much about these things, I looked with some regret, as if to say "yes, well, probably yes" while looking at each other thinking who spoke nonsense. In March came Another Heaven, and you are 10 monthly issues. I had the pleasure of overseeing the publication of just under a hundred stories and interviews with great writers, most generous, some friends today. In

February, in parallel, I started writing reviews for the cultural portal Leedor.com . Two months later I became the editor content area literature. In 10 months I published there 43 people took notes and valuable as Ramiro Augusto Sanchiz or Munaro, contributing reviews from time to time.

Through these activities I got involved more deeply with the publishing world. I met wonderful people (Ana Mazzoni, of Eternal Cadence, Natalia Carolina and The End of the Night , Salvador Biedma of Company, Guillermina in Absolute Black ) and some more that escapes me now safe) . And people resentful and disappointed people. As expected the latter, it was a relief to know first.

also helped me to understand a little better what is the thing with publishers and their marketing strategies. I found that the large international groups watering compared to the sheer force of work and the iron conviction of certain publishers girls, some of them, as I predicting for some time, Argentina will be the big publishers century.

I also met many writers. Not bad. I think many are not used to cross with people who have read carefully and devotion. I do not want names but I have returned (in favors, books and affection) much more than I could have given them.

Finally, back in September 2010 I had my "crazy idea." Found a publisher. Something little, which merged a little Funesiana model with the publishers of library (The End of the Night, Eternal Cadence, etc). Thus was born Black Queen Editorial . Of course, when I mentioned it in September with friends and family, looked at me with that look pitiful and worried, but this time there was a hint of doubt as I had tried that when I tell Heaven Another thing is that I have thought this and I have idea of \u200b\u200bwhat I mean. And in December, was founded this tiny editorial.

would be unfair to say that the editorial came about through a great disappointment and two great discoveries. The big disappointment: a small publishing house that filled the mouth talking about how to bet their money by authors of interest and then, getting a manuscript of mine and a friend, send the same mail asking for three thousand dollars for publication. Let a caveat: there are publishers that do this, call it co-editing, and although I'm not quite friends with these ideas, I acknowledge that go forward with your project. The same thing happens with publishers and dunk or the four winds, etc. One knows what it is: say you input them make you x amount of copies for x money. It's a business now.

What I dislike about these people (the small editorial calling for three thousand dollars) is to say first one thing and then when a weapon the manuscript and sends another. Worse, as eager to money, that the response email saying that the manuscript was perfect as it was. What kind of small publishing house did not have the slightest qualms about what it publishes? O my friend and I are two real genius, or something wrong in this "editorial."

The other side of the issue comes from the Uruguayan side. For the # 6 Another Heaven came to me to put together a special about the new Uruguayan narrative. There I met many interesting writers. Ramiro Sanchiz already knew him before (he was the consultant for the collection, right), but some other names I broke the head right there, including Horacio Cavallo, who is also a poet and has been involved in another time Heaven his poetry column and as a blow to the head, Paul Dobrynin.

contacted by mail to Paul, who told me that no one published his book of short stories. Just read some of their stories to know that this is not only nonsense but should be punishable by law. Paul is an excellent writer. If the market did not know him, or did not find it profitable, do not know. All I know since then that Paul should be published.

My friendship with Ramiro Sanchiz led me to believe that the best way to start a publishing project was with something of theirs (by a vote of confidence might raise something so ridiculous). But Ramiro is being published by little, here and there, and did not want to ask one of his long novels. I know that sooner or later they will find a place that better remuneration report. Then I asked what was once a long story (and after a few tweaks, a nouvelle) to venture into to make the first book from the publisher. Ramiro accepted as a writer should always accept, with enthusiasm. I even asked to change a clause in our Contract want any gain that correspond to the first edition back to the editorial, to continue to grow. This gesture can not but have written the odd pages of a printing company, a publisher who insists on paying and a writer who insists on not charging.

Basically, Editorial Black Queen is a punk act with elegance in design. If there are publishers who charge authors, we want to offer an alternative. In our editorial earns little or no money, but neither the authors put weight. I cut off their hands before asking a writer silver is excited about their project under the arm. We publish it or not, but never ask silver to do so.

arming While the first two books from the publisher (probably the second is one of mine), I told Paul I would love to publish Dobrynin. Obviously, he wanted to prove to publishers large and I gave him my blessing, I hope so, because obviously, Alfaguara could put in all the libraries on the market. We do not. And yet, it seems that a force of arguments to support your decision, Paul had felt that precisely in Black Queen had such respect for his work that would never be just another book. We were going to edit it as the work deserves, caring, looking for the ideal illustrator, working side by elbow on the index of stories and narratives. I do not know really, but something must have worked all that well because two days later told me that we removed what we wanted.

What happened to Paul is synonymous with what I'd like to happen with many valuable authors from Argentina and Latin America in general. It is probably impossible to do, but I'd love to publish Liliana Colanzi, Giovanna Rivero, Rodrigo Hasbun. And I moved to Bolivia. Argentine authors also unpublished papers that come along, hoping to be the right time.

And of course, authors who produce a lot and are my personal library. Who I do not want to publish something Neuman, Nielsen, Newfoundland? The list goes on. Sometimes I think that one of them is possible. We will see in 2011.

And meanwhile, I've written. A lot. I finished a new novel, "Bad dog (in talks for publication), I began another, I corrected an earlier one. Wrote two volumes of short stories (" Wait your turn and will _amado " and " Venezuela will always have") and an unclassifiable book entitled " the shadow of history ."

They all add up, for now, the list of unpublished manuscripts I have for here. Some come around in 2011 in different publishers, who knows, one can never be sure how the market will move. Good intentions are.

So here we are. No one can say that one was still in 2010. That was a year very difficult in many respects, but paid off. Hopefully beginning with the 2011 harvest. And many pages are written in solitude nest somewhere, and your readers scattered around. Today
